Nuweiba is a tourist resort on the coast of South Sinai, 70 km south of Taba and 180 km north of Sharm el Sheikh and only 110 km from Saint Katherine. In the early 80s, almost a decade ago, Nuweiba was the favorite destination for independent travelers due to its ideal central location and its natural beauty. Investors discovered the commercial importance of the virgin beaches between Nuweiba and Taba and ultimately opened deluxe hotels to mass tourism, camp owners and family hotels suddenly saw themselves in competition with well-known chain hotels offering flight and hotel packages to unbeatable prices. Nuweiba today is an insider tip for tourists and travelers who are looking for a unique holiday off the beaten path. It is a very personal experience, an adventure that lets you experience the art of hospitality and the encounter with friendly local people. Nuweiba Tarabin, the northern part, consists of a thick grove of palms, a shallow bay and the ruins of a Turkish fort. The well inside the ruins has served the Bedouins as a fresh water source for centuries. Tarabin is known for its lively oriental atmosphere. The Town is built around the former Moshav Neviot, which was established during Israeli occupation in 1971. It's significance was the marking of the tribal boundary between the Tarabin tribe in the north and the Muzeina tribe in the south. In the veteran town center bazaars, supermarkets, internet cafes and restaurants cater for very need. The recently opened garden cafe is a meeting place for tourists and residents alike. The only bank in Nuwieba Town is found at the Nuweiba Hotel, which after renovation will open as a spa resort. A new commercial area opposite the hotel is under development with some restaurants and supermarkets already open. At the entrance of the city next to the court and opposite the hospital lies the post office: open from 9.00 to 14.00 except Fridays and on holidays.
The Dunes are the extension and connection between Nuweiba Town and Nuweiba Muzeina. Camps and family owned hotels are situated on beautiful sandy beaches with spectacular coral reefs. The Dunes are divided in "Duna" and "Small Duna". Most of the campsites and hotels are built in the southern "Small Duna", while "Duna" stayed a romantic virgin place with simple accommodation of thatched beach bungalows, a few family owned small hotels and some small restaurants. |
